The undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences prepares students for graduate study in professional health fields including physician’s assistant, veterinary medicine and optometry. The program gives students the flexibility to prepare for a wide range of health-focused careers as it fulfills the general requirements for entry into most graduate-level health professional programs. This allows students to tailor their degree to support their particular area of interest. The health sciences program is also a pathway for students who want to complete a graduate degree in physical therapy or pharmacy here at Husson.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences prepares students for immediate work or graduate studies in professional health fields. With its heavy emphasis on chemistry, biology, physiology and other sciences, the degree is ideal for successful individuals interested in becoming doctors of medicine, medical specialists (podiatrists, optometrists, dermatologists, osteopathic physicians etc.), veterinarians, dentists, speech pathologists, chiropractors, radiologists or physician’s assistants.
Pre-Pharmacy
Students interested in a pre-pharmacy curriculum are offered admission to the Health Sciences degree program. Qualified students in this pre-professional track may apply to the Husson School of Pharmacy during their second year of study at the university for third-year entry into the professional phase. Husson students are guaranteed admission to the professional pharmacy program if they meet all the relevant criteria.
First-Year Student Undergraduate Admission Criteria:
Applicants who are admitted prior to the completion of the academic year are accepted contingent upon successful completion of all academic work and the receipt of a final transcript of grades. Admission to Husson or to particular programs may be denied to applicants considered incapable of making reasonable academic progress. Husson invites applications from secondary school graduates or students having received a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and qualified international students without regard to age, color, religion, sex, national origin, level of family income, or physical ability.
Applying to Clinical or Professional Programs Students pursuing degrees leading to application for professional licensure or certification, and/or who will be participating in clinical placements, internships, or practicums through their Husson program of study should be aware that their host facility may require a criminal background check, finger printing, or drug screening. In such situations, students are responsible for obtaining and paying for the background check or other screening process and for delivering required documentation to the facility. Although Husson will make reasonable efforts to place admitted students in field experiences and internships, the host facility will determine whether a student will be allowed clinical access at that facility. Students should be aware that a criminal record may jeopardize completion of their coursework and degree requirements, as well as licensure by the state professional regulating body. Students may consult the licensure and/or certification organization corresponding to their intended program of study for more details. Successful completion of a program of study at Husson does not guarantee licensure, certification, or employment in th
