The Master of Public Health program will prepare you to be part of the solution in leading change and improving the health of populations. This program features coursework in health research methods, program planning, epidemiology, health policy and more. You’ll complete 24 credits in core coursework and 9 credits of electives to customize your degree with your career goals. An internship and capstone round out your degree to prepare you for a career in community health, health education and health services management.
The Master’s in Public Health is a professional Master’s degree program providing advanced preparation for medical and health service managers, health educators, and community health workers. Public health professionals work with policymakers, health systems, and the public on addressing healthcare access, long-term wellness and health, and prevention. As the United States continues to address the combined problems of healthcare shortages, rising healthcare costs, and an aging population, holders of the Master’s in Public Health will be part of the solution. As healthcare demand increases, there will be an increased demand for people who can manage health services.
The Master’s in Public Health at Husson requires students to take courses in biostatistics, epidemiology, policy, economics, ethics, management, planning, and behavior change. All students will complete a capstone and an internship experience, and there are electives in the program providing students the opportunity to take more classes in a related area of interest such as analytics or business. The program is offered online, and there is an option for students without background in public health to enter the program.
Occupational Therapy/Healthcare Administration & Public Health
This BS/MS program leads to a BS in Healthcare Administration and Public Health and an entry-level Master’s degree, an MS, in Occupational Therapy. It is for high school graduates or college students who wish to transfer from another institution or from another major within Husson University. Once you are accepted to Husson University as a first-year student, you can enroll directly into the BS Healthcare Administration and Public Health – MS Occupational Therapy track.
The combined bachelor’s/master’s program is an accredited program that accepts students without a bachelor’s degree. Our program awards a baccalaureate degree in Healthcare Administration and Public Health and upon completion of the master’s-level academic requirements awards an entry-level master’s degree, an MS, in Occupational Therapy. Successful completion of the master’s degree portion of the program is required for eligibility to sit for the national certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
The first two years of study focus on laying the foundation through Humanities and Sciences that are critical for success in subsequent occupational therapy courses. You must meet minimum GPA and grade criteria in specific core courses in order to remain eligible to progress to the third year of Occupational Therapy coursework, referred to as the professional phase. These criteria include an overall GPA of 3.0 by the end of the second year of study and a grade of C+ or better in identified prerequisite core courses. These same criteria are also required to remain enrolled in the School of Occupational Therapy. The curriculum and course descriptions for this program are located in the link, “Curriculum“. For students transferring into the program before the professional phase, you must already have a 3.0 overall GPA.
The BS in Healthcare Administration and Public Health is awarded after successful completion of four years of study; the MS in Occupational Therapy is awarded after successful completion of the fifth year of study and supervised clinical fieldwork.
Admissions:
Applicants applying for entry to the first year of the Healthcare Administration and Public Health/Occupational Therapy program must meet the following criteria:
- a high school average of 85 (3.0) GPA
- one letter of recommendation
- successful completion of courses in math, biology and chemistry; physics and psychology are recommended but not required
- a written essay
- Please note: Husson University is test-optional and will not require the submission of SAT or ACT scores to apply for admission.
Students currently enrolled at Husson University can apply to transfer into the program from another major within the first two years of general undergraduate study. Students from another institution may also apply to transfer into Husson University. All transfer students must meet the same criteria for grades and GPA as students who are enrolled from the first year and will be expected to fulfill the requirements for the Healthcare Administration and Public Health/Occupational Therapy program. Finally, transfer students are also required to complete an essay provided by the School of Occupational Therapy. Applicants may be admitted to the Healthcare Administration and Public Health/Occupational Therapy program prior to completing these requirements and then apply to transfer into the OT track once these requirements are completed.
